Flute
Emilia Lew

About
The first time Emilia played a flute was at the Winchester Community Music School’s instrument “petting zoo”. Playing flute just felt right (mostly because the flutist at the petting zoo said she sounded great). She began flute lessons with Dr. Jessica Lizak, who remained her teacher throughout high school. She also participated in both the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the New England Conservatory Preparatory School programs, playing in the top orchestras at both programs.
Emilia continued her flute studies with Leslie Fagan and Molly Barth at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, where she was selected to participate in the Vanderbilt Musik Akademie, a 2-week chamber music program held in Berlin, Germany featuring private lessons and chamber music coaching from the members of the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet. She graduated in 2021 with a double major in Musical Arts and neuroscience and completed a master’s in research psychology at Concordia University in Montréal before returning to the Boston area, where she now works as a research assistant at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She has been playing with the Apollo Ensemble since August 2023 and is thrilled to be part of Boston’s vibrant music community.
