Danbi Jo Choy, an accomplished clarinetist from South Korea, is actively contributing to the music scene in Massachusetts. Not only is she a sought-after performer, having showcased her talent as a concerto soloist with various orchestras, but she is also deeply involved in the local orchestral community. As a freelancer, she has held the position of principal clarinet in orchestras like the Apollo Ensemble of Boston and the Du Bois Orchestra while holding a position on the Eb clarinet with the New England Philharmonic. Beyond orchestral settings, Dr. Choy is a versatile chamber musician, having co-founded Trio Mirabile, serving as the artistic director of Artique in Boston, and being a member of the Weston Wind Quintet.

In addition to her performance career, Dr. Choy is a dedicated educator. As a faculty member at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, she shares her expertise working with students in the Young Artist Orchestra, Young Artist Wind Ensemble, and the Clarinet Workshop. Her commitment to music education extends to her work with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, where she passes on her love for music to the next generation.

Dr. Choy has also maintained her clarinet studio for decades, and her students are frequently found in top youth orchestras such as the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. Many of her students have achieved the honor of serving as All-State principal players and have qualified for Nationals. Moreover, her students have been accepted into prestigious colleges such as Brown, Princeton, Williams, and Yale.

Dr. Choy holds degrees in clarinet performance from Boston University (D.M.A.), New York University (M.A.), and the Pusan National University (B.M.).
