Keila Wakao & Leland Ko Play Brahms
Saturday, May 22, 2027 • 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Don’t miss this thrilling program of orchestral masterworks with Apollo Ensemble of Boston!
Cellist Leland Ko is the Third Prize winner of the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Competition, recipient of a 2026 Avery Fisher Career Grant, and First Prize winner of the prestigious 2024 Naumburg International Cello Competition. In 2023, he won First Prize at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Competition, leading to his concerto debut with the orchestra. Violinist Keila Wakao is the First Prize winner of both the Menuhin International Violin Competition and the Stulberg International String Competition. She made her Boston Symphony Orchestra debut at the BSO’s Opening Night Gala in 2024 under Andris Nelsons and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras across the world, including the Albany Symphony, Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, Eugene Symphony, Lexington Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony, and more.
Both Wakao and Ko return to the Apollo Ensemble — each following multiple individual appearances with the orchestra — to perform Brahms’s monumental Double Concerto in what promises to be a spectacular collaboration. The program also features Richard Strauss’s thrilling Don Juan and Stravinsky’s electrifying Firebird Suite.
