Keila Wakao Plays Sibelius | Thompson & Shostakovich

First prize winner of both the Menuhin International Violin Competition and the Stulberg International String Competition, Keila Wakao is a Boston native currently studying at the New England Conservatory of Music. She made her Boston Symphony Orchestra debut at the BSO’s Opening Night Gala in September 2024 under Andris Nelsons, and has also performed concertos with orchestras across the United States, including the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, Eugene Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Lexington Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and many more. She now returns to the Apollo Ensemble to perform Sibelius’s Violin Concerto on a program that also features Joel Thompson’s An Act of Resistance and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9.

We will hold an open dress rehearsal for this performance Saturday, November 22nd at 12:00PM in First Church Cambridge’s Margaret Jewett Hall.
