Dvorak’s New World Symphony & Liyuan Xie Plays Mozart

Former Apollo Ensemble Concertmaster and current First Associate Concertmaster of the legendary Cleveland Orchestra, Liyuan Xie returns to Boston to perform Mozart’s “Turkish” Violin Concerto No. 5 on a program that also features Yvette Janine Jackson’s Atlantic Crossing and Dvorak’s New World Symphony.

The Apollo 2025–2026 season also features violinist Keila Wakao, first prize winner of both the Menuhin International Violin Competition and the Stulberg International String Competition. A Boston native and current student at the New England Conservatory of Music, Wakao made her Boston Symphony Orchestra debut at the BSO’s Opening Night Gala in 2024 under Andris Nelsons and has performed with orchestras across the United States. She joins the Apollo Ensemble to perform Sibelius’s Violin Concerto on a program alongside Joel Thompson’s An Act of Resistance and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9.
